The Apple Store app now delivers Siri Shortcuts that will allow iPhone Upgrade Program subscribers the ability to pre-order an iPhone XR on Oct. 19 using their voice. The Siri Shortcuts feature arrives with the 5.1.1 update of the universal app.
Once the new feature goes live, Apple Store app users can tap on an “Add to Siri” button during the iPhone XR pre-approval process. From there, you’ll be asked to record a custom command. Phrases like “pre-order my iPhone” or “get my new iPhone XR” will work. When pre-orders for the iPhone XR begin, users can use the saved Siri Shortcut to get started.
A more streamlined pre-approval process through the Apple Store app was first used for the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max last month.
Apple explains:
iPhone Upgrade Program members can now use Siri Shortcuts for an even faster way to complete their iPhone XR pre-order on 10.19. Look for the ‘Add to Siri’ button while getting pre-approved, and record your own voice command, like “pre-order my iPhone.” Say your phrase when pre-order begins, and let Siri pull up your pre-approval in the Apple Store app so you can quickly complete your order.
First introduced in September, the iPhone XR features a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina HD display and will be available in multiple colors, including white, black, blue, yellow, coral, and (PRODUCT)RED. The new handset, like the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, includes an A12 Bionic chip, next-generation Neural Engine, and 12MP wide-angle camera. It also includes Face ID.
Pre-orders for the iPhone XR begin Friday, Oct. 19. The handset officially arrives one week later.
