Following today’s release of the macOS High Sierra 10.13.2 software update, Apple quietly put out a minor update to iTunes for Mac and Windows computers, focused on under-the-hood changes.
“This update includes minor app and performance improvements,” according to Apple’s release notes. The official Apple website offers no further information regarding iTunes 12.7.2.
This new version of iTunes is available over the air using the Software Update mechanism (you can find the download underneath the Updates tab in Mac App Store).
The previous iTunes (version 12.7.1) came with just minor under-the-hood improvements and bug fixes, but no outward-facing feature enhancements.
iTunes now focuses solely on music, movies, TV shows, podcasts and audiobooks because the ability to download and purchase ringtones, as well as apps for iPhone and iPad, has been removed from the app since October’s release of iTunes 12.7.
For certain companies, including Apple’s carrier partners that might still need to use iTunes to install apps, Apple is providing iTunes 12.6.3 which brings back a built-in iOS App Store storefront and the ability to download ringtones from iTunes Store.
