Image files can be saved in a variety of formats. The most common formats used are JPG, JPEG, GIF and PNG. Certain image formats are better suited to specific uses. Step 1
Launch your graphics editing application such as Adobe PhotoShop, Corel PaintShop Photo Pro or GIMP. Click "File" on the top toolbar, then click "Open." Select the image you want to convert and click "Open."

Click "File" and then "Save." A dialog window opens. Give your image file a name and enter it in the input field. Select ".IMG" from the Format menu.

Click "Save" to complete the conversion and save your image in the IMG format.
