A leaked iOS 11 Golden Master release candidate reveals that Apple’s internal hardware identification number for AirPods has been bumped from “AirPods1,1” to “AirPods1,2”, which indicates that a minor revision is in the works and probably slated for release soon.
And now, developer Steven Troughton-Smith has managed to extract the animation that will be displayed on the AirPods card when the user opens the case near their iPhone.
Granted, there isn’t much to be gleaned from the animation because they look like before, with one exception—the LED status light that currently sits between the space for the earbuds on the inside of the lid appears to have been relocated to the outside of the case.
Both the animation and the slight hardware ID change indicate a minimal refresh for AirPods with very subtle changes. The LED light change will make it a lot easier to glimpse the charging status of your AirPods without having to open the case.
